Shots were reported at a polling station in Cox’s Bazar’s Maheshkhali’s Qutubjom union. A man named Abul Kalam was killed in the incident. Four more people were shot at that time.

The deceased Abul Kalam is said to be a supporter of independent candidate and Awami League rebel candidate Mosharraf Hossain Khokon.

The incident took place at around 11am on Monday (September 20) at a polling station in Qutub Jom.

Maheshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Returning Officer Mahfuzur Rahman said this.

It is learned that in the Kutubjom Union Parishad election in Maheshkhali, the supporters of Awami League-backed boat candidate Sheikh Kamal and his rival independent candidate Chashma Pratik’s candidate Mosharraf Hossain Khokon got into an argument over vote fraud. Later, when the firing started, Abul Kalam (40) was shot dead on the spot. Voting in the two centers has been postponed due to clashes.

Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police. Hasanuzzaman said the situation is normal now. Voting will begin shortly.
