Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said a separate regulatory body would be set up for e-commerce. Digital e-commerce will be enacted. Everyone who wants to do e-commerce business needs to be registered.

He made the remarks at the secretariat after a discussion on the recent problems in the digital commerce business on Wednesday afternoon.

The Commerce Minister said that the money that Evali has taken from the customers, it seems that they will not be able to return the money to the customers. Because, either Evali has taken the money, or spent a lot of money on advertising. Sponsored in various places including sports. Now they seem to have no money. There is no opportunity to take money from them.

The commerce minister said anyone new to the e-commerce business would be monitored. It will be taken care of whether such a tempting offer is made somewhere. At the same time, the Department of Consumer Protection will be utilized. The Money Laundering Act and the Digital Act will be amended.

The Commerce Minister further said that sending the CEO and Chairman of Evali to jail is not the solution. The government will take steps to ensure that the affected customers of Evali get their money back. At the same time, it will be ensured that the accused are punished. There are about 30,000 online in the country at present. Of these, 10 to 12 organizations have been accused. Overall, online organizations are not bad.

He said that if the e-commerce owner-officer is imprisoned, the customers will not get anything. If there is nothing again, even if you take it out, there will be no profit. Evali, the owner of e-Orange, is in jail. Some of the other companies have fled. Alesha Mart is trying to pay off the debts, we are monitoring them. We have reports that many women affected by Corona have also joined e-commerce. So e-commerce cannot be stopped.

Regarding Evali, the minister said that Evali has a liability of Rs 500 crore. Half customers, half merchants. I have heard that there are assets worth 80-90 crore rupees. Attempts will be made to know what their thoughts and feelings are. These have come up in today’s discussion. Institutions like Evali do not have the capacity to pay.
