Awami League is taking action against those involved in UP elections: Obaidul Quader

Awami League General Secretary, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that the party is taking action against the disputed candidates in the second phase of Union Parishad (UP) elections.

He told reporters after inspecting the Jatrabari-Demra highway upgrade project at 11:30 am on Wednesday (October 13).

Quader said if there is any allegation of nominating a controversial person in the UP elections, it is being investigated and if necessary, it will be rectified. I told Allready about this, to check any controversial name immediately.

Addressing the party on the occasion of the UP elections, the Awami League general secretary said the resolution should be prepared in advance so that it can be sent to the central office of the Awami League as soon as the Election Commission announces the schedule. We have noticed that organizational rules were not followed in many places due to last minute hasty preparation of resolutions. Besides, it is difficult to work with all the resolutions at the last moment.

Meanwhile, Obaidul Quader has commented that BNP does not take part in the public election because it is afraid of the election. He said the politics of escape is not done by Awami League but by BNP. Their fugitive politics is a threat to democracy. The BNP’s policy on elections is a suicidal policy, which is nothing but cheating with activists and voters. They are paying the price for this recklessness now and will have to pay in the future as well.

It may be mentioned that in the second phase on November 11 this year, the votes of 646 Union Parishads (UPs) of the country will be taken. According to the schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers to the Returning Officer for the posts of Chairman, General Member and Reserved Women Membership is October 18. The last date for selection of nomination papers is October 20 and the last date for withdrawal is October 28.
