A court has sentenced husband Obaidul Haque Tutul to death for hacking to death a housewife named Tahmina Akter who came live on Facebook due to a family quarrel in Barahipur area of Feni city.

The verdict was announced. The trial took place in just 60 working days.

The court sentenced her husband Obaidul Haque Tutul to death under Section 302 and fined him Tk 50,000.

State counsel Feni Judge Court PP Hafeez Ahmed said the court had sentenced the accused to death as the murder was proved on the basis of all the evidence.

Tahmina’s father Sahab Uddin, the victim of the murder, said, “I have received justice, I am grateful to justice and the government.”

Plaintiff’s lawyer Shahjahan Saju said the trial was over in a short time. An example has been set through this verdict. We have received justice.

Defendant’s lawyer Abdus Sattar, on the other hand, said, “We have not received justice.” I will appeal to the high court for justice.

According to court sources, public prosecutor Hafeez Ahmed and plaintiff’s lawyer Shahjahan Saju presented arguments against Tutul in the Tahmina murder case on Tuesday. Lawyer Abdus Sattar argued for the accused.

Testimony began on January 13 this year with the testimony of Sahab Uddin, the father of the deceased. In this case, 13 out of 16 people testified. The trial began on January 20.

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case SI Md Imran Hossain filed a chargesheet against Tutul on November 11. Obaidul Haque Tutul hacked his wife Tahmina to death on April 15, 2020.

According to family sources, Obaidul Haque Bhuiyan Tutul, son of Golam Mawla Bhuiyan of Barahipur area in Ward 7 of Feni Municipality, married Tahmina Akter, daughter of Sahab Uddin of Akdia village in Comilla’s Chauddagram upazila about five years ago. They have a one and a half year old daughter named Tafannun Arwa Mayos.

Before killing his wife, Tutul came to Facebook Live and apologized to everyone and admitted that he was responsible for the incident. He also blamed his wife for the family unrest. He also claimed that his wife used to ‘blackmail’ the family. In the video, Tutul asks everyone to take care of his daughter.

It may be mentioned that Shahjahan Saju Tahmina, the lawyer in the Nusrat murder case, also handled the murder case at his own expense.
