Sinha murder case: Testimony of the third day of the sixth phase begins
       

Testimony on the last day of the sixth phase of the murder case of retired Army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan began on Wednesday. The trial of the case began at 10:30 am today in the court of Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail.

Earlier at 9:30 am, 15 accused in the case, including OC Pradeep, were brought to the court under tight security.

The trial began today with the testimony of Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah and Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Delwar Hossain.

Earlier on Tuesday, 14 witnesses testified in the case. A total of 56 people have so far testified in the sensational murder case.

Public Prosecutor (PP) of the Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge’s Court, Faridul Alam, said today that Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah and Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Delwar Hossain Sinha had pleaded guilty under section 164 of the 15-year-old murder case.

Besides, Sub-Inspector of Police Kamal Hossain and Constable Musharraf are on the list of witnesses today. PP Faridul Alam said two more witnesses have been produced in court today.

According to the case file, retired Army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead by police at Shamlapur check post in Baharchhara union of Teknaf upazila on the night of July 31 last year on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road.

Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case against nine policemen, including former Teknaf Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das and former in-charge inspector of Baharchhara Investigation Center Liaquat Ali.

Liaquat Ali was made the main accused in the case. The court took cognizance of the case and assigned RAB to investigate. The police filed a case at Teknaf police station and another at Ramu police station. Six days after Major Sinha’s death, seven policemen, including Liaquat Ali and OC Pradeep, surrendered to the court. Three witnesses in a case filed by the police at Teknaf police station and three members of the Armored Police Battalion (APBN) on duty at the Shamlapur checkpost were later arrested on charges of involvement in the incident. Later, RAB arrested former Teknaf police constable Rubel Sharma. On June 24, another fugitive accused in the case, former ASI Sagar Dev of Teknaf police station, surrendered before the court.

Apart from OC Pradeep and Constable Rubel Sharma, 12 other accused have given confessional statements in court. After the investigation, the investigating officer of the case on December 13 last year, the then Assistant Superintendent of Police of RAB-15. Khairul Islam filed charges against 15 people in the court. 63 people were witnessed in this.
