A ferry named ‘Amanat Shah’ partially sank in the Padma after overturning a vehicle at Paturiaghat in Manikganj. At least 16 trucks on the ferry sank in the Padma at the time.
The incident took place around 9:30 am on Wednesday.
Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury, Assistant General Manager of Bangladesh Inland Shipping Corporation confirmed this.
He said the Amanat Shah ferry arrived at Paturiaghat with 18 trucks from Daulatdiaghat around 9am. After landing at port number five here, the ferry suddenly tilted and partially sank. At that time 16 trucks on the ferry fell into the river.
Upon receiving the news, the fire service of the fire service is conducting a rescue operation at the spot. However, it has not been confirmed yet whether there were any casualties in the incident.
