HC upholds MP Harun’s jail term in tax evasion case

The High Court on Thursday upheld five years jail term of BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid in a tax evasion case.

An HC bench of Justice Md Salim passed the order rejected the appeal petition of the BNP leader.

Meanwhile, the court also upheld the jail sentence of Channel 9 Managing Director Enayetur Rahman Bappi in the same case.

On October 21, 2019, Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 sentenced the Chapainawabganj-3 lawmaker Harunur Rashid to five years imprisonment and fined Tk 50 lakh,

Two others accused in the case Enayetur Rahman Bappi and Sky Autos owner Ishtiak Sadek were also sentenced to two years and three years in prison, respectively.

The lawmaker, later, filed an appeal in October 28, 2019, against the trial court verdict.
