A fire broke out at a polythene factory in Old Dhaka’s Mahuttuli on Saturday night.

Being informed, 12 firefighting units rushed to the spot and managed to bring the flames under control at about 12:20am on Sunday, said Shahjahan Sikder, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

“The blaze originated on the ground floor of a four-storey building around 11:30pm and it soon spread quickly,” the official said.

No casualties have immediately been reported.

Factories and chemical warehouses in the residential buildings of Old Dhaka often catch fire and sometimes turn widely devastating and deadly.
