A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan allegedly opened fire inside the force’s headquarters in Khasa in Punjab’s Amritsar district Sunday morning and killed four of his colleagues before turning the weapon on himself, police said.

Amritsar Rural police senior superintendent of police (SSP) Deepak Hilori confirmed the five casualties, including that of the jawan who opened fire. Another BSF personnel was also critically injured in the firing and is under treatment at a private hospital in Amritsar.

The BSF has not released any statement so far, however, sources said that the jawan, who opened fire was upset with his duty hours.

The incident occurred at 10:15am and victims were declared brought dead at a private hospital at 11:00am.

BSF sources said constable Setteppa SK of ‘B’ Coy 144 Battalion opened fire on his colleagues using his duty gun in the GF and ORS barracks of the Khasa headquarters.

Khasa is one of the busiest headquarters of the BSF in Punjab with the Integrated Check Post between India and Pakistan under its jurisdiction and the charge of the beating retreat ceremony arrangements.
